Who we are
The controller of your personal data is Jonathan Truelove ("we", "us"). You can contact us about this notice or your data through Jules (PA) at pa@jonathantruelove.com.
What we collect
When you send an enquiry, we collect the details you enter in the form: your name, email address, phone number (optional), the topic you choose and your message.
If you arrived through a link from an advert or campaign, the form also records the source tags in that link (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_content and utm_term) and the page topic from the link. These tags describe the link you clicked, such as which advert it came from.
Why we use it
We use your details to reply to your enquiry and to help with the matter you raise. We use the source tags to understand which adverts and links lead to enquiries.
Our lawful basis
We rely on our legitimate interests in responding to enquiries and understanding how people find us or, where you ask about a service, on taking steps at your request before entering into a contract with you.
Who receives your details
Form submissions are stored and delivered by Netlify, our website host, and by our email providers, ImprovMX (which forwards email sent to jonathantruelove.com addresses) and Google (Gmail). These providers store and deliver submissions for us. Your enquiry is then handled by Jonathan and his PA, Jules.
We do not sell your details, and we do not share them with anyone beyond these providers unless the law requires us to. We never send your name, email address, phone number or message to Meta. If you accept cookies, Meta is told only that an enquiry was sent and its topic, as explained under Cookies, Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel.
Transfers outside the UK
Netlify is based in the United States. For UK data it relies on the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and, where that does not apply, the EU standard contractual clauses with the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
Google may process data in the United States and elsewhere. It relies on UK adequacy regulations, the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses where required.
ImprovMX, which forwards email sent to jonathantruelove.com addresses, processes data in the EU and the US. We are putting UK transfer safeguards in place for this service.
How long we keep it
We keep enquiries for up to 12 months, unless your enquiry becomes an ongoing matter, in which case we keep the details for as long as that matter needs.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you
- have inaccurate data corrected (rectification)
- ask us to erase your data
- object to how we use your data
- ask us to restrict how we use your data
- receive your data in a portable format (data portability)
- withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on it (for example, for Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel)
- complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO)
To use any of these rights, email pa@jonathantruelove.com. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
Marketing
We will not send you marketing or add you to a mailing list unless you have given your consent.
Cookies, Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel
We only use cookies or similar technology for analytics or advertising if you agree. When you first visit, a banner asks you to accept or reject. The site works in the same way whichever you choose, and you do not have to choose.
Google Analytics
With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4, a service provided by Google Ireland Limited ("Google"). It tells us how many people visit the site, which pages they look at, how they arrived (for example from a search engine or an advert) and whether they go on to send an enquiry. We use this to understand which pages are useful and to improve the site. If you reject, or make no choice, Google Analytics does not load and nothing is sent to Google.
If you accept, Google Analytics collects information about your device and browser (such as browser type, screen size and approximate location based on your IP address), the pages you visit and how you interact with them. It sets cookies called _ga, which distinguishes visitors and lasts up to 2 years, and _ga_ followed by an ID, which keeps track of your visit and also lasts up to 2 years. We have turned off Google's advertising features and Google signals, so this information is not used to personalise adverts. Google acts as our processor for this data. Google may transfer it outside the UK, including to the United States, and says it relies on the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses for these transfers. More detail is in how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
We keep Google Analytics data for 14 months.
Our lawful basis for using Google Analytics is your consent.
Meta Pixel
With your consent, we use the Meta Pixel, a tool provided by Meta Platforms Ireland Limited ("Meta"). We use it to measure how well our Facebook and Instagram adverts work and to tell when someone who clicked one of our adverts goes on to send an enquiry or contact us. If you reject, or make no choice, the Meta Pixel does not load and nothing is sent to Meta.
If you accept, the Meta Pixel collects:
- information about your device and browser, such as your IP address, browser type and screen size
- the pages of this site you visit, including the web address of each page and any advert tags in it
- the fact that you sent an enquiry and the topic you chose (for example, consultancy or selling a property), but never your name, email address, phone number or message
- the fact that you tapped a link to phone, WhatsApp or email us, and which of the three it was, but not the number or address
- Meta cookies stored in your browser: _fbp, which lets Meta recognise your browser and lasts up to 90 days, and, if you arrived by clicking one of our Meta adverts, _fbc, which records that click and also lasts up to 90 days
If you use Facebook or Instagram in the same browser, Meta may link this information to your account. Meta uses the information to report to us on how our adverts perform and to measure and improve the delivery of our adverts. Meta's own use of the data is explained in Meta's privacy policy. We and Meta are joint controllers for collecting this information through the Meta Pixel and sending it to Meta. Meta is responsible for its own use of the information after that, as explained in its privacy policy. You can contact us or Meta to exercise your rights.
We also store an item called jt_consent in your browser's local storage to remember whether you accepted or rejected. This is strictly necessary to respect your choice, it is not sent to anyone, and we ask you again after about six months. If you have accepted and you send an enquiry, we also store a one-off marker (jt_lead_pending) for that browser tab, holding only the enquiry topic, so the enquiry is counted once. It is deleted when the thank-you page loads.
Our lawful basis for using the Meta Pixel is your consent.
Meta may transfer this data outside the UK, including to the United States. Meta says it relies on the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and other appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, for these transfers.
You can withdraw your consent at any time by choosing Cookie settings (also at the bottom of every page) and then Reject. Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel will no longer load on the pages you visit after that, and we will try to delete the _ga, _ga_ and _fbp and _fbc cookies from your browser. You can also delete cookies at any time in your browser settings.
